What's included
Every room, every trade, every quote and every dollar, in one notebook that survives a building site.
Renovations rarely go wrong in one dramatic way. They go wrong through a hundred small verbal agreements that nobody wrote down. The Renovation Kit puts the whole project on paper: a page per room or trade, a page per site conversation, and the money, all in a book that works with dusty hands and no signal.
Pre-order: this kit ships about December 10, 2026. Free shipping on US orders of $75 or more.
Everything you need to start
A Project Tracker page for every room or trade, Meeting Summary pages so no site conversation lives only in somebody's memory, and a Monthly Budget and Weekly Budget Tracker for the money. Weekly AM/PM sheets show who is on site when, the 2027/2028 calendar holds lead times and stage payments, and Inspiration pages collect the decisions you will be asked to make on the spot. Ruled pages are for the working-out, dotted pages for measurements and layouts, with sticky flags for what is live this week.
A setup you can customize over time
Every page except the calendar is undated, so you start whenever the job starts, and a quiet month waiting on permits costs you nothing. Pages lift off the discs, so you can take the plumbing section to a supplier and leave the rest at home. More project and meeting pages are available in the store as the job grows.
The system behind the pages
Building work eats everything: your evenings, your weekends, your kitchen, and eventually the parts of life that have nothing to do with the house. Your Perfect Notebook already includes the Big Blocks Dashboard for the next two weeks of the build and the personal half for the rest of your life, the Daily Task Manager for each day, and the Reflection Page for an honest line on what moved and how you are both coping.
Why the kit, and not just the notebook
- A written record changes how carefully people quote. A notebook with a visibly kept record puts something on the table that a phone never does.
- Every site conversation gets a page. Action items with an owner and a date, written while you are still standing there, then read back before you leave. Thirty seconds, and it is the highest-value habit in the kit.
- Variations get written down the moment they are agreed. What changed, who asked, what it adds, who is paying. A variation that exists only in a conversation will be remembered differently by the two people who had it.
- It works where renovation happens. No signal, no charge, dusty hands, a builder who needs an answer now.
- The dependencies are visible. The window lead time decides the plastering date, which decides the decorator, which decides the kitchen, which decides the stage payment. On facing pages you can see it.

A week with the Renovation Kit
- After every site conversation. Fill in a Meeting Summary, including the two-minute chat in the hallway. Read the actions back before you leave.
- The moment a change is agreed. Write the variation down: what changed, who asked, what it adds, who pays.
- Sunday. Set the week: who is on site which day, what is being delivered, what has to be decided before Wednesday. Check the trackers for anything blocked.
- Daily. Log each purchase on the Weekly Budget Tracker. Five seconds each keeps the final figure from being a surprise.
- Monthly. Reconcile the money: stage payments due, invoices paid, what is left in each category. Copy every payment date onto the calendar.
- End of a cycle. Reflection Page: what moved, what stalled, what you will change.
Who it is for, and who it is not for
It is for
- Anyone project-managing their own build: a first home being made livable, a kitchen and bathroom, a loft conversion, an extension, a whole house.
- People running the job around a full-time job, where site decisions get made in a five-minute phone call.
- Anyone comparing three quotes who cannot remember which one included the making-good.
- Couples who want the money visible between them, and landlords who would like the process to be repeatable.
It is probably not for
- If your contractor runs everything and you only choose finishes, you may not need a project system this complete.
Made to be used, and refilled
The Perfect Notebook is a B5 notebook on cream 90gsm paper that is friendly to fountain pens, with rounded corners and 11 aircraft-grade aluminum discs. Pages lift off the discs and go back on, so the book is something you keep and refill rather than finish and throw away.
A gift for someone you care about
A practical gift for someone about to start a renovation: a way to keep every decision and every agreement written down.
Made for the person running the build
The Renovation Kit is for anyone who has learned, or would like to avoid learning, the expensive way that "we agreed that on site" is not a document.

It is paper, so yes.

Paper & Discs
Cream 90gsm paper, disc-bound spine — add, remove and rearrange every page anytime. When a section fills up, refills keep the same notebook going for years.

Good to know
If your contractor runs everything and you only choose finishes, you may not need a project system this complete. It is a planning and record-keeping tool. It does not replace contracts, permits or professional advice.
How to use it
A simple routine to start with.
Before the project starts
Set up a Project Tracker page per phase and put the dates on the calendar. Use the Monthly Budget to lay out the numbers.
After every site visit or call
Fill in a Meeting Summary page. Write down every change, every variation and who agreed to it.
Weekly
Log purchases on the Weekly Budget Tracker and move a sticky-note flag to each open item.
Near the end
Keep a punch list on a ruled page and tick items off as they are fixed.
How to arrange it when it arrives
Build it yourself when it arrives — front to back. Nothing is fixed; the discs let you reorder anytime.

The Icons Method — how progress tracking works
Every Big Block category has its own symbol — the sword in the stone for professional goals, the pinwheel for fun & recreation, the heart for relationships, the racket for body time, the sprout for personal growth, and the crossed tools for skill building. They appear in two places: at the top of every Daily Task Manager page, and in rows of ten under every goal on the Big Blocks Dashboard.
Step 1 — the daily page
In the morning, circle the icons of the one or two goals you really want to advance today — not all six. That circle is a commitment. Then, during the day, colour the icon the moment you finish the step — the small, immediate reward for a step actually taken.
Step 2 — the dashboard
Colour one icon in the row under the matching goal for each real step you took — only on the day you did it, never from memory. The empty icons are the point: three empty icons mean three days you did nothing on that subject. That's information, not decoration.
Reading the rows
Rows that fill quickly show where your energy naturally flows. Rows that stay empty are the method's most valuable output — a mid-cycle signal while there's still time to act. Ten is not the target; it's room to grow. See the full icon language →
